BrusseThe European Union has reiterated the need to prevent the politicization or militarization of humanitarian aid, renewing its call for the immediate, large-scale, and sustainable delivery of assistance to civilians in Gaza, in line with their urgent humanitarian needs.
The remarks came in a statement issued by Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Kallas condemned the ongoing Israeli military operation in Gaza, citing the disproportionate use of force, the killing of civilians, and the repeated targeting of civilian infrastructure.
“The Israeli military operation, the disproportionate force, and the killing of civilians are unacceptable and cannot be tolerated,” Kallas stated. “Civilian infrastructure must not be targeted.”
She emphasized the need to restore a ceasefire that would lead to the release of all hostages and bring an end to hostilities through negotiations.
The EU also condemned ongoing settler violence in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. The statement highlighted systematic intimidation campaigns, physical and verbal assaults, the destruction of property, and the burning of Palestinian homes — actions the EU warned could lead to the forced displacement of entire communities.
Brussels urged Israeli authorities to take immediate and decisive measures to address the situation and ensure accountability for those responsible.
The statement also warned that incitement to violence and the intimidation of residents and journalists in Jerusalem undermine the city’s special status and the integrity of its Old City.
