Fatah: Hamas Puts Its Own Interests Ahead of the Palestinian People’s Suffering

Ramallah – Zaytoun News

The Palestinian National Liberation Movement, Fatah, said that in light of the recent statements made by Hamas political bureau member Mohammed Nazzal, which clearly revealed the movement’s orientations and its approach to the coming phase, it reaffirms that such positions once again demonstrate that Hamas continues to put its narrow factional interests and organizational survival above the suffering and sacrifices of the Palestinian people.

Fatah spokesperson Abdul Fattah Doleh stated, “After two years of genocide, destruction, and displacement that have afflicted our people in the Gaza Strip, it would have been more appropriate for Hamas to align itself with the will of its people and their higher national interests, rather than persist in turning its back on the tragic reality created by its coup and years of unilateral rule.”

In a statement issued on Saturday, Doleh stressed Fatah’s categorical rejection of any partial solutions or formulas that perpetuate the separation between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, or that grant Israel free political leverage by returning to discussions of a “long-term truce.” Such proposals, he said, undermine the essence of the Palestinian national project and replace a comprehensive political solution based on international legitimacy and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital with local administrative arrangements under the occupation’s framework.

He added that Hamas’s insistence, according to Nazzal, on maintaining its “security control” over the Gaza Strip after all that has happened, means persisting in the re-creation of an illegitimate rule by force, accompanied by violations and mass field executions that are being repeated today against our people in the afflicted Gaza Strip, at a time when national unity should be restored, not further fragmented.

Doleh also noted that the hints made about Hamas’s willingness to retain control in exchange for giving up its weapons are not new. The movement had previously approached regional and international parties, including the U.S. administration, in this regard, and had agreed to President Trump’s plan, which contained a clear clause on disarmament. This, he said, reflects the nature of the bargains that Hamas seeks to preserve its power not to defend the rights of its people.

He stressed that Fatah believes the only way to end the national tragedy is to return the Gaza Strip to legitimate Palestinian authority and to stop all attempts to dismantle the collective national identity of the Palestinian people.

Doleh concluded that Palestinians have shed their blood for freedom, statehood, and independence, not to entrench division or create alternative projects to a unified Palestine.

In his recent interview with Reuters from Doha, Hamas political bureau member Mohammed Nazzal said the movement is ready for a truce lasting three to five years to rebuild the devastated Gaza Strip, provided that future guarantees offer Palestinians “a real horizon and hope” toward establishing a state.

Nazzal also defended the movement’s recent public executions in Gaza, saying these were “exceptional measures” taken during the war and that those executed were “criminals who had committed murders.”
