Human Rights Watch has issued an urgent appeal to halt arms sales to Israel in light of its ongoing military attacks on Lebanon.
The international rights organization highlighted the severe impact of Israeli airstrikes, which have resulted in the killing of hundreds and injuries to thousands since the assaults began on Monday.
According to the organization’s statement, the Israeli military campaign has been the “most intense and extensive” assault on Lebanon to date, with a reported toll of 640 fatalities, including women and children, alongside 2,505 injuries and the displacement of approximately 70,000 individuals.
Human Rights Watch urged Israel’s key allies to suspend military assistance and arms sales, citing a “real danger” that these supplies are being used to commit serious violations of human rights.
The organization also called on the United Nations to initiate a prompt international investigation into the recent hostilities.
It emphasized the need for UN member states to support this inquiry and ensure that investigators are dispatched immediately to collect evidence and provide recommendations regarding violations of international law and accountability.
