Ramallah – Zaytoun News
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has issued a presidential decree calling on the Palestinian people, both at home and in the diaspora, to participate in elections for the Palestinian National Council on November 1, 2026.
The decree stipulates that the elections will be held wherever possible, both inside Palestine and abroad, in a manner that ensures the broadest possible participation of the Palestinian people in their various places of residence. The elections will be conducted in accordance with a full proportional representation system, guaranteeing fair representation of all components of the Palestinian people, including women, youth, and Palestinian communities abroad. The Central Elections Commission will assume full responsibility for supervising the electoral process.
In a separate decision, President Abbas also set the date for the Eighth General Conference of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah), which will be held in Ramallah on May 14, 2026.
It is worth noting that the Palestinian Council of Ministers had previously issued a decision setting April 25, 2026, as the date for elections of local authorities in Palestine.
