Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received on Wednesday the Head of the Canadian Representative Office, Graham Dattels, at the Presidential Palace in Ramallah.
President Abbas praised Canada’s stances and its prominent role in supporting peace and stability, and its official recognition of the independent and sovereign State of Palestine.
According to the Palestinian News Agency , Abbas emphasized that Canada’s recognition of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, freedom, and independence constitutes an important and necessary step toward achieving a just and lasting peace in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
Abbas also commended Canada’s development and humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people and its continued commitment to supporting Palestinian institution-building programs and supporting the police, security services, and justice sector.
He reiterated his commitment to all pledges made by the State of Palestine for reform.
Abbas stressed the importance of strengthening and developing bilateral relations between Palestine and Canada in a way that positively reflects the friendship between the Palestinian and Canadian peoples.
For his part, the Canadian representative affirmed his country’s steadfast position in supporting peace and providing humanitarian support in the Gaza Strip, as well as in strengthening the capabilities of the Palestinian security forces and supporting the State of Palestine’s efforts in reform programs.
