The Spanish government announced that it will lunch investigations into companies that promote products or services in Spain originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The move follows the adoption of a decree last week prohibiting the promotion of these goods and services in Spain to prevent companies from profiting from the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.
In a statement, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs said the decree forms of a border package of measures, including an arms embargo on Israel, aimed at halting the genocide in Gaza.
Consumer Affairs Minister Pablo Bustenduy had previously said that his office would use “all necessary resources” to ensure that no company operating in Spain benefits from the occupation.
“No company’s budget should be stained with the blood of the Palestinian people,” the statement quoted him as saying at an event held last July.
On Friday, the United Nations released an update to its database of companies with activities in Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories, listing 158 companies from 11 countries.
