The UN Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing, Balakrishnan Rajagopal, described Israel’s actions in Gaza as ‘domicide’, stating that the continued demolition of homes under flimsy military pretexts forms part of a broader crime of genocide.
In media remarks, Rajagopal said Israeli forces continue killing, destroying homes, and obstructing humanitarian aid despite the ceasefire, arguing that the truce has become “ink on paper” due to the absence of a real monitoring mechanism.
He stressed that the demolitions are carried out on a wide and indiscriminate scale, with no credible evidence that the targeted homes are military objectives, describing these actions as serious violations of the laws of war and crimes against humanity.
He also warned of the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, noting that more than 288,000 Palestinian families currently lack adequate shelter. He added that Israel has not allowed the agreed number of tents and temporary housing units to enter Gaza, despite aid trucks being ready at the crossings.
