The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced that at least 74 children were killed in the first seven days of 2025 due to ongoing violence in the Gaza Strip, including attacks on a unilaterally designated safe zone.
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell said in a post X that eight infants and newborns have died since December 26 due to hypothermia, while more than a million Gazan children live in makeshift tents unable to withstand low temperatures.
She added: “We have long warned that inadequate shelter, lack of access to nutrition and health care, dire health conditions, and now winter weather, all put the lives of all children in Gaza at risk, with newborns and children with health conditions particularly at risk.”
