Edmonton – Zaytoun News
Members of Edmonton’s Sudanese community held a rally yesterday at the Alberta Legislature to demand international intervention amid the escalating humanitarian crisis and reports of genocide in Sudan, particularly in the El Fasher region of Darfur.
Participants called on world leaders and humanitarian organizations to take urgent action to protect civilians, ensure safe access for aid, and hold those responsible for the violence accountable. The rally was part of a global wave of demonstrations drawing attention to Sudan’s deteriorating situation.
Participants held banners reading “Sudan belongs to Sudanese” and “Save El Fasher”, along with photos of victims, while waving Sudanese and Canadian flags in solidarity.
Sudan has been engulfed in a brutal conflict since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The clashes have devastated several regions, with Darfur—especially El Fasher—facing some of the worst atrocities. Thousands of civilians have been killed, millions displaced, and entire communities destroyed amid reports of ethnic violence and systematic attacks on noncombatants.
