Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, accompanied by his delegation, visited the exhibition “Treasures Rescued from Gaza” held at the Arab World Institute in Paris, as part of his official visit to the French capital.
President Abbas was received by French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati, President of the Arab World Institute Jack Lang, the Institute’s Director General Shawqi Abdel Amir, and a large group of staff and officials from the institute.
Abbas was given an extensive tour of the exhibition, which features around 100 archaeological artifacts originating from the Gaza Strip, covering various historical periods، some dating back as far as five thousand years.
The Palestinian President praised the efforts behind the exhibition, emphasizing that it highlights the deep-rooted history and authenticity of the Palestinian people in their land. He affirmed the importance of this cultural work, which underscores the civilizational role played by the Palestinian people throughout history.
President Abbas concluded his visit to the Arab World Institute with a meeting with French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati, Institute President Jack Lang, and Director General Shawqi Abdel Amir.
Paris warmly welcomed President Abbas, receiving him for the first time in his official capacity as President of the State of Palestine.
French President Emmanuel Macron met with Abbas on Monday, affirming that France would assist the Palestinian Authority in drafting a constitution for a future Palestinian state.
After their talks in Paris, Macron announced that France and the Palestinian Authority would establish a joint committee to work on drafting a new Palestinian constitution.
“This committee will work on all legal aspects constitutional, institutional, and organizational,” Macron told reporters.
He added, “It will contribute to the process of drafting a new constitution. President Abbas presented me with its draft, which aims to fulfill all the necessary conditions for the establishment of the State of Palestine.”
Macron also announced that France would contribute 100 million euros (about 116.6 million U.S. dollars) in humanitarian aid to Gaza for 2025.
According to a statement from the Élysée Palace, Macron and Abbas discussed the next steps in the peace process, including reforming Palestinian Authority institutions, enhancing security and governance, and preparing for reconstruction, all in anticipation of what both sides described as “the day after,” paving the way for an independent Palestinian state to live in peace alongside Israel.
On the social media platform X, Macron wrote, “Mr. President Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine welcome to Paris. Together, we are working for a better tomorrow, where the two states, Israel and Palestine, will live side by side in peace and security.”
